For this event, we hosted a class of 28 8th graders from Westminster school. To help them with their year-long Future Cities project of building a floating city, we hosted a tower building contest. The event started off with a presentation about what engineering is, which important skills are needed in engineering (teamwork, critical thinking, …) and more specifically, what is civil engineering? Next, we offered them a wide variety of materials to let them choose from for building their tower in teams of about 6. The winning team was determined through criteria of sturdiness, floatability, creativity.
